I'm saying a sad farewell to goodies. It's now official, after 2 rounds of testing, that I have gestational diabetes and will need to make a few changes to control it properly.
This (hopefully) isn't going to be a huge deal, because I've been making it a habit to eat frequently, consume a lot of whole grains and proteins, and generally try to have very balanced eating habits. Still, it will mean that the occasional indulgence in very generous slices of home-made pie at the truckstop down the road should probably be avoided for the next two-and-a-half months! I'm looking forward to meeting with a dietician and nurse very soon to learn all I need to know so I can keep baby and me as healthy and happy as possible.
I'm just praying that I'm not one of the few who decides to hold onto this dear affliction after giving birth! The longing for a nice dark beer and a lovely piece of sour cream lemon pie (although not together) could become an obsession soon!

I had gestational diabetes too. :P Do you have to poke your finger four times a day like I did? I think that was the worst part. And not eating cereal. The low-carbs thing KILLED me... (I'm a carb lover) Really, you're asking me to limit my cheerios to 1/2 a cup? Seriously.... At least there's a bright side, it's temporary!
Thanks, Holly! Glad to know I'm in good company!
Ugh! Bummer for you. I hope it only lasts the next few months because I'm not willing to give up sweets in front of you! Plus, you're our fondue guru-we need someone to test the chocolate!
On another note, maybe I'll see some of your family up north since you guys are all related, right? :)
What are you doing for lunch on Wednesday?
Aw man! That's all the good stuff! I will go eat some 'naughty' foods and think of you. I might skip on the dark beer though. :)
tbe beer and pie sounds like it could have been quite the combination, glad you clarified not together, yikes!
I hope this is only a temporary setback with the pregnancy, not fun!
Good luck with it though, I know how tough cutting things out is. When I was prego with Ethan my blood pressure dropped way low and I would faint if I got too hungery, I had to carry around salty stuff just in case. Then my colesterol went all out of wack and I had to say goodbye to all that yummy stuff I love.
Glad to say I am 'normal' again, whew!
Yep, Holly, I've been doing the finger poking thing 4x/day, but after being a star pupil for a week and having healthy levels due to diet, I can back off on the testing and just keep on with the reasonable diet. Thanks for the thoughts, gals! Hopefully my body will revert to "normal" after the pregnancy...well, at least in terms of insulin resistance!
